CECL (Current Expected Credit Losses)

  • January 2019 - February 2021 - 26 Months
Technologies
Role & Responsibility

Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) is a new credit loss accounting standard (model) that was issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) on June 16, 2016. CECL replaces the current Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) accounting standard. The CECL standard focuses on estimation of expected losses over the life of the loans, while the current standard relies on incurred losses.

The financial crisis of 2007-2008 demonstrated that the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) accounting standard does not allow for timely adjustment of reserve levels based on reasonable expectation of future conditions. It relies on losses that are incurred but not realized, i.e., when it is known with some certainty that future cash flows will not be collected. During the crisis, negative outlook of the economy was not considered for losses calculations. As a result, reserves were not adjusted for future expected losses. The FASB reviewed the standard and replaced it with CECL. CECL requires expected losses to be estimated over the remaining life of the loans, as opposed to incurred losses of the current standard.
    Roles and Responsibilities:
End to end project handling- requirement gathering, design & deployment.
Data warehousing using ETL tool ADF.
Analyse current ETL process, define and design new systems.

CTR (Currency Transaction Report)

  • February 2021 - January 2022 - 12 Months
Technologies
Role & Responsibility

A currency transaction report (CTR) is a report that U.S. financial institutions are required to file with FinCEN for each deposit, withdrawal, exchange of currency, or other payment or transfer, by, though, or to the financial institution which involves a transaction in currency of more than $10,000. Used in this context, currency means the coin and/or paper money of any country that is designated as legal tender by the country of issuance. When the first version of the CTR was introduced, the only way a suspicious transaction less than $10,000 was reported to the government was if a bank teller called law enforcement. This was primarily due to the financial industry's concern about the right to financial privacy. The Bank Secrecy Act requires financial institutions to report currency transaction amounts of over $10,000. The outcome of the project is demographic file which is generating by CDC process. This file will be using further as report for federal government. The main source of this project is EPH data and AML ODS. The overall ETL flow is LAND, STAGE and Demographic file.
    Roles and Responsibilities:
End to end project handling- requirement gathering, design & deployment.
Data warehousing using ETL tool ADF.
Analyse current ETL process, define and design new systems.
